HMS: Spring Events

Via the Sentinel Courier, March 22, 2022

With the arrival of warm weather this week, it’s starting to feel a little more spring-like, even if it still looks like the depths of winter. The sun is gaining strength, and we are just weeks away from being able to smell the soil, listen to the returning songbirds, and breathe the fresh spring air!

Conversations on Truth and Reconciliation

Our Conversations on Truth and Reconciliation with Swan Lake First Nation elder and historian Dave Scott had to be cancelled on March 10 due to road conditions, but has been rescheduled for the evening of Monday, March 28th at 7 p.m. in Clearwater. If you would like to learn more about the past, present and future of Indigenous people in our community and participate in a spirit of reconciliation, please register in advance with info@harevstmoonsociety.org. Masks and full COVID-19 vaccination will be required for attendance.

Fibre Series

Up next in our Fibre Series is ‘Working With raw Fleece’ with Lee from Generations Fibreworks - Saturday, March 26, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Harvest Moon Learning Centre - $100 cost, lunch provided. Topics will include skirting and preparation for washing, processing by hand, and more! Limited spots remaining - register by emailing info@harvestmoonsociety.org.

Seed Starting Workshop

Have you thought about growing a garden but just don’t know where to start? Then our Seed Starting Workshop is for you! A full day workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 2nd with Carissa Quadfass. Topics will include discussion of tools and materials for seed starting, lighting, watering, seed types, and hands on learning mixing soil, soil blocking, and planting seeds. There is no better time than now to take charge of growing your own food, and we want to help you learn how! The workshop will run 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. April 2, and is FREE to attend. Participants can bring any seeds they would like to start, or seeds will be available. Come dressed to work in the greenhouse with a sun hat and gloves. To register, email info@harvestmoonsociety.org.

Green Burials

Our Green Burial Information Session is scheduled via Zoom for the evening of Thursday, April 14th at 7 p.m. This will be an introduction and discussion about environmentally sustainable death-care practices in Manitoba.

Perennial Exchange

Mark your calendar! Our annual Perennial Exchange will take place on Saturday, May 28th in conjunction with a Houseplant Care and Macrame Plant Hanger Workshop! Come with your garden plants to exchange or give away and plan to stay to learn to look after their indoor cousins.

Knitting & Crochet

We are also looking forward to a Knitting and Crochet workshop scheduled for Saturday, April 30th.

Events will operate according to Provincial Health Orders - mask wearing is encouraged.
