The Harvest Moon Learning Centre
The Harvest Moon Learning Centre is located on the site of the former Clearwater Elementary School. Since purchasing the building in 2003, the Harvest Moon Society has made considerable renovations to the school and its grounds. The goal for the Harvest Moon Learning Centre is to become an agro-ecology and sustainable living education and training centre.
Former classrooms have been converted into a licensed commercial kitchen and dining area, as well as dormitory-style accommodations. The Clearwater Nursery School operates out of one of the classrooms, meaning the laughter of children is still heard within the school walls.
On the school grounds, a hoop house and permaculture-inspired gardens provide fresh produce for workshops and events. During the summer, chickens inhabit the unique “chicken moat” surrounding the garden. The adobe oven was the first improvement made to the site and has been churning out wood-fired pizzas for over decade.
The Community Kitchen
The Community Learning Kitchen is a used for Harvest Moon events and activities but can also be rented by educators or local producers who wish to process or add value to raw products, such as salsa, jam and baked goods.
Cooking is a crucial component of HMS activities, whether it be for meetings, celebrations, workshops or courses offered by the organization. The renovated commercial kitchen at the Harvest Moon Learning Centre in Clearwater is a teaching, food-processing and gathering space for people from all over Manitoba and beyond.
The fully-equipped kitchen and the adjacent dining and meeting space offer stunning views of the valley.
